Day 1-3 - Las Vegas
We’ll start our West Coast America tour in one of nation’s most well-known cities: Las Vegas. This infamous den of vice, excitement and razzmatazz is home to some truly awe-inspiring hotels, casinos and plenty more. We’ll wander along the Strip and you can admire the neon majesty of the establishments lining the route. That night, we’ve splurged on the accomodation and it’s a night in a hotel on the Strip- live the Vegas lifestyle with an evening show, casino visit or dine out in the myriad of restaurant options!
Sleep in or head out to take a pic of the Vegas sign. We’ll also visit some of the striking hotels along the Strip. Feel like a Roman at Casear’s Palace, King Arthur in Excalibur or ride the rollercoasters of Circus Circus- we can guarantee it’ll never get dull. Another classic Vegas experience with an afternoon’s pool party before a further evening to take in the delights of the local charms. If understatement is your thing- then Vegas might not be for you- but it’s a great, unique and utterly American experience!
Day 3-5 - The Grand Canyon
From the big-city buzz to another slice of Americana with a trip from the bright lights to the remote grandeur of the Grand Canyon. We’ll arrive in time to get supplies and then set up camp on the Southern Rim of the Canyon and get set for a stunning sunset.
An unforgettable day awaits as we step into the unknown with a full day out in the Canyon itself. Marvel at the majesty of the Canyon- a mile deep, 277 miles long and 18 miles wide- this National Park holds all the cards when it comes to mesmorising views. Discover the fascinating history of the Native American communities who lived here. Wander from one stunning panorama to the next and take incredible photos or soak up the surroundings. We don’t want to rush this experience so we’ll stay overnight, in the park, and sample bourbon whiskey under the stars as we take in 6 millions years of history. Please note you can hike at your own pace as the hikes themselves will not be guided but we’ll provide all the info and maps you need!
Day 5-6 - Flagstaff
Live like a cowboy with a classic experience in the midst of the Canyon itself. That afternoon, we’ll visit a gun club (optional) and hear more about how gun culture is a major part of the American pysche. Hear arguments from both sides about it’s impact and learn more about the history of guns in the U.S. Time to relax in the evening with a trip to a craft brewery. Lots of states are proud of our their local brew and we’ll give you plenty of opportunities to pick your favourite as we criss-cross the country.
Day 7 - Route 66
Route 66 is one of America’s most epic road trips and we’ll tackle a signifcant section on this day of travelling. Either gaze out of the window and take in the epic wilderness outside or relax and enjoy a movie with the free wi-fi on board. It’s a good day to recharge your batteries before another few days of action-packed adventures. There’s still fun to be had, that evening, with a chance to gaze at the stars from the Griffith Observatory. That evening – we’ll arrive to L.A- ready to discover the city’s headline acts over the next few days.
Day 7-8 - Los Angeles
After a few days in the remote desert- it’s time for a taste of modern, city life in one of the world’s coolest cities: Los Angeles. We’ll start our time here with an in-line skating experience along Venice Beach before cooling off with a frozen yoghurt. Whilst at Santa Monica Pier- we’ll take part in the Coyote Trip Arcade Challenge before a classic California burger lunch! That afternoon- venture up the famous Hollywood sign and look down at the city beneath. An evening in the city starts with a wander down Hollywood Boulevard and spot the stars on the Walk of Fame.
Today – you can visit one of the city’s famous theme parks. The delights of Universal Studios or Disneyland await and both are jam-packed with entertainment, fun and a fair bit of magic! We can help arrange your tickets and give you tips on the best rides, attractions and shows. Alternatively, we also arrange a chance to give something back to the LA community with a volunteering trip to one of the city’s soup kitchens. Poverty is a real issue in California and this project helps to give people a lifeline who are struggling in society.
Day 9-10 - Santa Cruz
Another classic American trip awaits with a journey on the Pacific Coast Highway to Santa Cruz. This train along the coast is one of the world’s most scenic journeys and our end destination is another treat. Santa Cruz is a truly magnificent stop with an array of stunning beaches, relaxed vibes and Californian culture.
Learn the art of surfing with a morning class out on the water. After riding the waves – or at worst, admiring the scenery from the board- head over to Point Market for a breakfast burrito. That afternoon- we’ve got time to enjoy the stellar setting. Wander along the boardwalk and take in the views or jump in the ocean. Epic views are a guarantee.
Day 11-12 - Yosemite
Bid farewell to Santa Cruz and head over for another totally different part of the state: Yosemite National Park. This park is home to dramatic waterfalls, forested beauty, still nature, majestic cliffs, abundant wildlife and a myriad of inspiring vistas. A place to absorb the magic of nature and we’ll immerse ourselves in the heart of this National Park. The hiking will be done at your own pace but your adventure leader will give you all the tips and routes you’ll need for an awesome experience!
Wake in the midst of natural beauty and we’ll spend the morning enjoying the natural delights of Yosemite with a small hike and some swims amidst the pools. Marvel at the waterfalls and take in the vast wilderness before we make our way back to urban life. It’s not just any city we are coming back to – but to one of the world’s most exciting places: San Francisco. This stunning water-side city has a whole array of delights for us to sink our teeth into. That evening, we’ll wander out and check out some of the local bars.
Day 13-14 - San Francisco
Stroll through the city streets and admire the city from atop some of the steep streets. One highlight of any San Francisco experience is venturing across the Golden Gate Bridge and marvelling at both the feat of engineering and the impressive view of the bridge. We’ll do this experience on bikes and stop off in Sausalito for lunch. Head back into town, by ferry and your adventure leader will take you on a walking tour through some of the city’s most charming districts.
That morning – head to Alcatraz- this island prison played host to a number of the nation’s most ruthless criminals. Wander amidst the notorious site and consider whether there really was a genuine escape from here in the 1960s. Fortunately, you’ll get a return ticket so we can discover the charming Pier Area and then you can choose to take in some of the city’s art scene or head into Napa Valley for a wine tasting experience. It’s then time to bid farewell to the group and this action-packed West Coast America tour!
