insyte to the programme

Goa is a magnet for migrant families from all over India who come seeking employment opportunities and a better life. Often setting up tented camps in the outskirts of towns and cities, and in poor conditions, access to education for their children is never easy.

Education plays a vital role in the development of any child, so here in a village in North Goa a community-operated school has been established to provide free and accessible education for the children of this migrant community. By doing so, the project aims to prevent the pull into child-labour and thereby give these kids a better and more secure future.

The school teaches various subjects to the children, from academic subjects such as English and maths, drama, art, music and sports to more general life skills such as hygiene and sanitation or environmental awareness. The community school also doubles as a venue for kindergarten, sports coaching, adult education, vocational training and much more – the overarching mission being to provide accessible, quality education and coaching for thewhole community.

You will be a great support for the permanent local teaching staff, working each morning as
an assistant in kinder or primary school age classes. Afternoon sessions continue with more
academic classes, then sports and youth and adult education between 4pm and 7pm – if you
have specialist knowledge in computers, accounts or vocational skills then you can add
great value here.

Whether you are a qualified teacher or simply interested in helping disadvantaged
communities overseas, you have an important part to play here at this fantastic community
